I do not have any watch that costs more than the car, but the TAG is very valuable to me because it came from a once in a lifetime event. If I had to choose to pick this watch or the car when the world is ending, I would pick the watch. For sure.

Anyway, maybe these from @Luzifer 's mine would help :)

Kidding aside, that’s just funds for a violin Strad. Owning one is my dream. Still a long way to go because the price doubles just when I thought I could get it! And of course, the gov would take half for tax if I sell them.

The government taxes gold sale? WTF?

Yes, every gold sale from personal assets are taxed and if you do not report it, the gov would after you with tax evasion. Also, ANY gold from corporate assets are also taxed every fiscal cycle of 12 months regardless of whether you sell it or hold it. Unlike US and most countries where corporate can buy gold, hold them, and are only taxed after sale, Japan do the otherwise to encourage yen holding and other investments like real estate. The problem is, the Japanese Yen is worthless and will continue to be worthless with high debt, and holding a property has land tax, building tax, and local fees.

Up here : In Canada, purchasing investment-grade gold bullion (99.5% purity or higher) is generally not subject to sales tax (GST/HST). While there is no tax on the purchase of qualifying coins and bars, you may be liable for capital gains tax when you sell the gold at a profit.

If I sold the Huracan more than I paid for it, I'll have to pay 50% capital gain tax. Every buyer had to pay sales tax.

What pisses me off on something else, let's say you have steel, copper, brass and you bring it to the recycler and they give you a little money. You are supposed to declare these revenues and pay taxes on it. In my case it would be about 50%-60% that goes to the government. I brought my old truck to get it crushed, I was supposed to give the government 50%. F-that.

How would they know or track if you sell it?

Good question. Certified gold bars are sold through certified gold dealers. The customer must complete paperwork when buying or selling. The dealer then receives this paperwork and files it with the tax agency, which reviews the transaction. Larger transactions, such as those involving kilogram bars, are usually scrutinized more closely.

Smart buyers often purchase gold bars in smaller sizes, such as 250 grams, rather than full kilograms. This makes it easier to sell in chunks later. Smaller transactions are also less likely to be flagged, simply because there are so many of them. Meanwhile, dumb buyers like me who purchase kilogram bars can expect closer scrutiny each time. Still, as a responsible citizen, I intend to report everything properly. Trying to avoid taxes illegally is one of the worst decisions anyone could make (my opinion, of course).

For me, nothing beats Saturday's early morning drive. I took the photo while bathing in sun's vitamin D.

We are having a big snow storm at the moment... We already have 10cm (4 inch) on snow in a 2 hour span. First thing tomorrow is to use the snowblower to clear the driveway.

I'd say 5-6 more weeks countdown to get my car back but it's straight to surgery though. Roads wouldn't be ready though with a million potholes and literally salt clouds 30 feet high engulfing every street and highway. We need at least 2-3 heavy rains for the dust to clear somewhat.

It wouldn’t be Canada without snow and maple leaves, but 30 foot salt clouds sound crazy. I wouldn’t drive the car in that.

I suppose it might be manageable if you could wash it after every drive and only stick to clean roads. Still, that kind of salt exposure is nuts.

The last time I had to clear snow here was about 15 years ago, and it was only around 5 cm. I didn’t like it at all. I slipped and fell straight into a ditch. I didn't become Batman, just Snowman :)

Slipping on ice is dangerous. Best advice I can give when it's slippery is to take small steps. I had to use crampons on my boots this winter.

I avoid the salt /dust clouds waiting for a few rainfalls. Even with rain there are still clouds until they sweep the streets but that's usually late in April and beginning of May. I used to drive in early spring with the Corvette but I busted 2 tires and dented rims with potholes. I'm not driving the Lambo on most streets until holes are patched.

I've been waiting for about 5 years for this model to pop up in excellent condition at a reasonable price. This is a very rare model, I never seen one new. Every time one came up they were dirty and not worth the asking price. This time I got a mint watch and I didn't expect a bonus case (another brand box). It also came with an extra set of straps.

I'm not a fan of yellow but this one looks cool, the accents are subtle. I will wear it on occasion. I reset the chrono dials and it's ready to go. I had to start a new watch box.

Bulova Precisionist model : 98B312 Stainless steel and carbon fiber bezel, nylon webbing strap on one side and yellow rubber on the opposite.

This one too I've been searching every day for several months without success. I found one on ebay but the seller had copied a bunch of random pictures on the net and he didn't want to take real ones with some bogus excuse, I didn't trust the seller. Next I located one from an online watch store in Italy but after a deep dive it turned out untrustworthy and possibly a scam site. Sadly out of luck once again I decided to check out the real Tonino Lamborghini store to see if they had new models and low and behold there was a spyder available! I visited their site for months there weren't any until last week. I noticed when I bought it it was sold out already. I think I got lucky and got the only one available.

This is exactly my style, large, thick and hefty watch with a metal bracelet. A perfect size for my wrist with colors that match the car. The hands and dials are the same orange as my other Tonino I bought last fall but the orange stripe on the exterior is a darker metallic orange, not as reddish from the photos. The few pictures on the net it looked almost red, I was worried to pay so much money to regret my purchase but I has happily surprised it's a nice orange.

It's beautiful I will be extremely proud to wear it unafraid to sweat with a metal bracelet compared to staining leather straps. I cost me a whole lot more than any of my Bulovas but the quality is not as good. I guess you pay for the brand name and style. The bracelet links are cut square and sharp, I doubt it's a watch you can wear all day without your wrist getting chafed. The quality of the mechanism doesn't seem as precise, you can see the orange hands the paint is thin on the edges and you can see the metal sides. I also noticed there's no mention if it it Swiss made compared to the inscription on the other watch.

Now on the hunt for for the elusive GT1, for an black and orange trifecta.

Congrats! Patience paid off for sure. That new watch looks very nice and fits very well into your collection.

No worries about the cosmetic imperfection. Nobody will see it anyway, especially these days when many people are short sighted from staring at smartphones too much. If there is no mark on it and quartz, it is usually from minor movement such as Miyota.

I thought the other day if one of my watches ever fail and the hands stop moving it would not be a big deal, it's more jewelry than a timepiece and I would still wear it. Nowadays I don't see many people wearing watches, when I see some it's usually men who have digital watches. I don't see the allure in it, purely functional without any artistic design to it.

I don't even know if women look at men's watches and have an opinion?

Are watches with moving hands are a dying breed? Like an EV Tesla vs an ICE Lambo?

Women who are genuinely interested in you often just stare at you, look at your face, and then quickly pretend to look away when you notice :p At that stage they usually do not care much about what is on your wrist or what you wear.

Before getting to that point though, they often size someone up first to see if he fits their category. They do notice men's watches, especially when they are looking for a partner. Some women even dislike expensive watches, and usually it shows that they are insecure. That is usually the type to avoid.

I also tend to look at people's watches during business meetings because it gives me a small clue about their personality. When someone wears a digital watch, I feel they may not be very loyal, since digital watches are easily replaceable and not meant to last forever. People wearing older, expensive watches tend to leave a better impression on me because it suggests they keep things for a long time. Also, when someone wears a very common Japanese watches like Seikos or Citizens that you can buy almost anywhere, I sometimes assume they may not be the main decision maker. In those cases, I usually prefer to have important things clearly written in contracts rather than their verbal promises. Most of the time their verbal promises come out empty.

Dude - I often go days, grabbing a different watch from the box each day, without ever remembering to set them... But not having something on my wrist feels wrong. I have 36 double-watch-wider mechanisms in my workshop waiting for me to build a watch-cabinet. One day I'll get around to it, but it won't nearly be big enough.
